Hi, there, I’m Melissa. My studio is my happy place and quilting is my second nature.

It is a gift from my ancestors, a talent to be shared. It is a love-language; a memory-manifester; a keepsake-collector; it binds stories, connects threads, curates chapters, gaps a bridge between generations. As a fourth-generation quilter, I was inspired by Aunt Edith, who learned from Grandma Alice, who learned from Great-Grandma Emily. A gift I have passed on to the fifth generation: my daughter, Lydia.

The art of quilting has been greatly modernized since Great-Grandma Emily started making quilts with her needle and thread. We have a computerized longarm machine, with state-of-the-art, edge to edge computerized designs. At Osage Hills Quilting, we have made hundreds of quilts that have been shipped all over the world. What is it about our quilts that keeps our clients coming back? The Details

  • We are located in Skiatook, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa; less than 40 miles from the Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile in Pawhuska. My studio is part of the successful Osage Hills Craft Retreat Center, which I own and operate, together with my husband.
  • We do local and online quilting projects and are happy to serve you regardless of your location. We accept local drop-offs and nationally and internationally mailed projects.
  • To ensure your quilt looks its best, iron your quilt top and verify that your backing is square. Ensure that your backing is either sewn together or uses a wide backing fabric with at least three extra inches of fabric on all sides.
  • The following may be provided by us for an additional fee: batting at .25 per linear inch / Binding services at .15 per linear inch / Trim quilt at $10 / Prep backing at $10.
  • For protection against theft, we advise you don’t write “Quilt” anywhere on your package.
  • Turnaround time on all quilts is 6-8 weeks. This can vary (2-8 weeks) and is determined when we receive your materials. Contact us for further details.
  • Upon completion, you will be invoiced for return shipping costs.

Calculate square inches

54 x 60 quilt is 54 x 60=3,240 square inches.
To meander x .015 = $48.60
To premium x .02 = $64.80

Calculate linear inches for batting
Your quilt batting must be at least 2” larger than quilt top on all four sides. For example, a 54×60 quilt will need a 58×64 backing. Batting can be purchased for .25 cents a linear inch.

58 x 64 – short end of 58
58 x .25 = $15.50

Calculate linear inches for binding

54 x 60 quilt is 54+54+60+60=228 linear inches
Binding x .15 = $34.20

LONGARMING

Why does my backing need to be bigger than my quilt top? For loading onto the longarm frame, the backing needs to be at least 3” bigger than your top on all four sides of the quilt. For example, your unfinished quilt top needs to be at least 60×66 for a completed 54×60 quilt.

Will you arrange my quilt so I can have something from the backing placed in a specific location relative to the front of the quilt? Can you quilt it in such a way that my quilt is ‘double-sided’? No. Centering a quilt on backing horizontally is how I load them. I do not accept projects that require the quilt to be specifically placed on the backing.

T-SHIRT QUILTS

Do I cut up the t-shirts before I send them? No. Please ship your shirts whole. I will cut and stabilize them.

Do I wash the shirts before I send them? Yes. Send freshly laundered shirts. Do not use fabric softener. No ironing required, it is part of the stabilizing process.
